Mbale District Secures Shs1.2 Billion to Launch New Headquarters Construction

Mbale District has received Shs1.2 billion to begin building new district headquarters in Busoba Sub-County, officials confirmed. The announcement was made by Muhammad Mafabi, the district’s LCV Chairperson, during an interview at his office on Friday, October 31, 2025.

Mafabi stated that the funds have already been deposited into the district’s account by the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, marking the first phase of the ambitious project.

The construction of the new headquarters comes as the district prepares to vacate its current offices in Malukhu, which will be transferred to Mbale City. Once the handover is complete, Mbale City will move into the former district offices, and the Industrial City Division will occupy the city’s current premises.

Although the Shs1.2 billion is intended to kickstart the project, Mafabi emphasized that completing the headquarters will require Shs90 billion in total. He appealed to the Central Government for additional funding to fully realize the project.

Mbale Resident District Commissioner, Stanley Bayole, called on the district administration to use the funds transparently, warning that any mismanagement could attract legal consequences.

Residents from Busiu Town Council, including Paulo Mutambo and Sarah Wanzala, expressed enthusiasm about the project. They noted that relocating the district offices closer to their communities would reduce long travel times to Mbale City and urged authorities to fast-track construction for timely completion.
